BUILDING Total READINESS:

BODY ANd MIND

In today’s military, physical training often focuses on three pillars: consistency, endurance, and cardiovascular health. These are essential for soldiers to meet the physical demands of their duties—and just as critical for accomplishing day-to-day tasks that keep the unit mission-ready.

But readiness is more than strength and stamina. Military communities also need balance and overall well-being—nurturing the mind, body, and relationships to self and others.

The question is: How do we integrate these self-betterment tools when service members already have demanding responsibilities?

At TRIBE, we’ve seen that the foundation is already there. The military has built a culture of resilience and discipline—values that align perfectly with yoga’s focus on balance, mindfulness, and recovery. With the right training and a deeper understanding of both physical and mental needs, soldiers can enhance performance while building lasting resilience.

Yoga became a space of non-judgment and gratitude that I wasn’t getting anywhere else in my life...[I] was completely stressed all the time-just going, going, going. But when I practiced yoga, I could be myself and invest in slowing down, which actually helped me speed up my career path as a professional in the military.
— Lieutenant Colonel Jannell MacAulay. Interview in Yoga Journal, Sept 2018.
