Author Talk: February 26, 2020
Dr. Garrett Gatzemeyer
Join Dr. Gatzemeyer as he discusses his book Bodies for Battle, the first in-depth exploration of the Army's physical culture. Dr. Gatzemeyer is a graduate of the United States Military Academy (USMA), former assistant professor at USMA, current contingency planner in the Army's European Command, and a distance runner, part-time yogi and Stoic. He will lead a discussion on the history of movement in the military--its purpose and practice--and how it changed over time. He will explore the different elements of personal vs. collective movement practices, as well as the influence of the country's physical culture, the Army's mission, and the changing character of combat on movement styles adopted by the military to the present day. More information on the book can be found here.
